MY FOGSI SPEECH AT JAIPUR JAN 2009

2008 The FOGSI year that was.....
Dear FOGSIANS,
Namashkar & Greetings and regards to all of you for a very happy & prosperous
2009.

Addressing DIAS : Dignatories on Dias – Hon. Health Minister of Rajasthan, Dr. C.
N. Purandare President 2009, Dr Adarsh Bhargava, Dr Mridul Gehlot, incoming
Vice Presidents & my Team members.
At the outset let me thank you for supporting me as your president for 2008 and for
standing by me, with me for all the activities of 2008.
I congratulate the organizers for the wonderful AICOG 2009 arrangements.
The year 2008 is dedicated to my mother Dr Prabha Malhotra and my family, who
have been my inspiration and to all the Indian mothers for whom we FOGSIANS are
working to fill their life with health and happiness.

It has been a tough and rough road.
2008 has been a very eventful year and all of you FOGSIANS have contributed to its
success. I wish to congratulate each one of you for understanding FOGSI SOCIAL
RESPONSIBILITY and for working towards a goal of Safe Mothers and Beti
Bachhao, Beti Padao.
“I bid you adieu”
Remember me a little then.....

FOGSI year 2008 has been a year of mixed feelings for me.
As I hand over this baton to my good friend Dr. C. N. Purandare. I am sad and I am
happy at the same time.
On 6th Feb., I took over as President of this wonderful organization FOGSI, the
largest organisation of gynaecologists in the world, spread over 202 (205 to be
precise) societies and has over 23,000 members. The day 6th Feb. at Delhi was a very
emotional day for me, with my mother my inspiration not being able to come due to
serious illness and with the weather GODS making it a chilling experience literally
and the rain GODS spilling some tears on me. Whether that rain was a Good omen or
not I have yet to understand.
I still say
Life is a dance
has twists and turns.
Ups & downs
some spins dips,
and quick steps
and GOD is the choreographer
and to have a balance
all ups and downs
must be welcome
Life still plays games and takes exams.

FOGSIANS on 6th Feb, 2008, you entrusted me to lead FOGSI for a year (11
months) and I remembered the words of Andre.
"Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the
shores".
From that day I did lose sight of my safe shores, my family, my hospital, my patients,
my social friends in Agra all suffered my absence as I like a possessed mad man
buried into FOGSI and well being of women of India. At the outset I have to thank all
these people for bearing with my idiosyncratic ideas and eratic behavior. Thank you
family, thank you all for coming here, thank you friends, thank you staff of Malhotra
Nursing & Maternity Home Pvt. Ltd., thank you patients, thank you Agraits for being
with me, behind me and Thank you my close friend Rajesh Surana. Special thanks to
Jaideep, Neharika & Keshav.
6th Feb., I was supposed to make promises and fulfill them also, but friends,
FOGSIANS, I told you that day
"I don't promise you the moon. I told you all that I can only promise that the
road in 2008 will not all be smooth."
You all gave me a big big canvas to paint, I had ideas of colors and you all as my brush
and we all together painted on this canvas.
The painting which we all made together is what I am going to unveil now, whether
it is good or not you have to decide.
Let us go through 2008.
Dr. Pankaj Desai graciously let me work in Jan and the FOGSI days were
established. FOGSI DAYS (A day) a month dedicated to FOGSI on various issues,
mainly social and you all did full justice to this call and now we proudly have these
days for you to be looked after by the joint secretary every year.
Today 5th Jan. is FOGSI FOUNDATION day, a day I dedicate to the elders and
from now on any one more than 75 year old FOGSIAN can attend AICOG free of
registration and each one will be honored by FOGSI in their local meetings.

are releasing books here and here initiated many multicentric research projects.
FOGSI SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY : Friends, FOGSIANS, I tried a little
different approach to women's problems in India and to eradicate WEEEEP, we
FOGSIANS undertook the FOGSI ASTRA Bharat Jagruti Yatra. In one month
25,000 kms were covered from Kanyakumari to Delhi, Leh to Srinagar covering 23
States, involving over 5000 of our members visiting 102 villages, holding 98
medical camps and addressing over 500 women at each stop. 102 societies
participated in this massive FOGSI ASTRA BHARAT JAGRUTI YATRA – all of
them did commendable work but those who need special mention here are Nalabar,
Silchar, Madurai, Nellore, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Trissur, Sawangi, Allahabad,
Bikaner, Lucknow, Kolkata, Muzzafarnagar. People who dedicated the full month to
this yatra Rajesh Surana, Shirish Patwardhan, Shirin Venkat, Maninder Ahuja,
Jaideep Malhotra, Anupam Gupta, Bhagwati Oza and Saubhagya Gupta.
The message that Indian woman is precious and Save the Girl Child was spread
throughout the country. The President of India was apprised of the Indian Problems.
We have just made a small beginning which is going to be carried forwards by the
next president Dr. C. N. Purandare. The Yatra stall has been put up here and if you
care for the Indian woman do visit the stall and sign your name. Visit our yatra stall &
sign your name if you wish to be a part of this movement.
We will be making this activity a permanent pre congress event and would be
initiating a permanent account to look after the yearly FOGSI YATRAS.
FOGSI & GIRL CHILD : FOGSI's logo this year was FOGSI daughter with
rainbow colored ribbons in her hairs. We have tried to paint VIBGYOR in our girl's
lives. FOGSI has produced a 50 min. documentary film on Save the Girl Child
“Main Janam Loongi” and we have launched a massive awareness campaign of
“FOGSI-LUPIN Save the Girl Child initiative”. I urge you please stay away from
female feticide and sex determination. Only your NO to this evil practice can make a
difference. We are fighting the draconian PCPNDT and the ART laws, but I want my
FOGSIANS to first put their house in order. I know all FOGSIANS are not involved
in Sex determination & fetiade but let us stop those who are doing this evil practice.
We also propogate 'Adopt a Girl' campaign with help from an NGO and I am
pleased to let you know that 2000 FOGSIAN adopted a girl child for education this
year. Raveena Tandon is our brand ambassador for this project and will be present
here tomorrow whole day with all of you. Do join the walk with Raveena tomorrow
at 3.00 p.m. from our stall in the outer hanger.
FOGSI and SAFOG, AOFOG & FIGO & RCOG : Our presence is felt in these
international organizations. Our members hold important posts and we have a say in
decision making in these world organizations. All these organizations are present
here today. Welcome to all the office bearers of these organizations. I hope you enjoy
your stay in Jaipur.
FOGSI & GOI : We have worked hard to get on the right side of the Govt. of India
and many a Public private partnerships have been initiated in 2008. GOI now invites
FOGSI to all decision making projects for women health.
CRUISE
My last project of the year was to have a meeting for you, your health, your life style.
400 FOGSIANS were at the Mind and Body Connect FOGSIANISM Cruise on
Super Star Virgo. For 3 days we disconnected from academics and concentrated on
YOGA, self defence, holistic approach, spiritual life style management and various
sports and extra circular activities. We had panel discussions on ageing gracefully
and financial managements. A highly appreciated and successful experiment which I
hope will carry on for years to come as official yearly president's conference.
Friends, FOGSIANS I am not here to say that I have completed all my promises and
all my targets. I have just made a humble beginning and will keep on working as a
grassroot FOGSIAN worker towards one GOAL, one TARGET.
Lets make a new Indian woman
healthier & literate

Jai Hind, Jai FOGSI
